Description
The Cisco A900-CM-GNSS- is the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Clocking Module designed for the Cisco ASR 900 Series Aggregation Services Routers. This module provides centralized network timing capabilities, serving as a critical component for precise synchronization in converged service provider networks supporting Carrier Ethernet, MPLS, and advanced timing services.
Key Features and Benefits
- Carrier Ethernet ASIC Integration: Delivers essential Carrier Ethernet technologies including Hierarchical Quality of Service (HQoS), IPv4, IPv6, MPLS/flex LSP, and hierarchical virtual private LAN services (HVPLS). Provides line-rate performance with innovative traffic management, intelligent packet switching, and routing operations.
- Service Enhancement: Offers advanced per-traffic-class metering with bidirectional packet-count and byte-count statistics. Enhanced with Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) functionality including Layer 2 Connectivity Fault Management (CFM), IP Service-Level Agreements (IP SLAs) for Layer 3, and MPLS OAM.
- Service Scale: Ensures flexible service scalability in a small footprint, delivering high performance for point-to-point and multipoint services in wireline and wireless applications.
- Clocking and Timing Services: Integrated support for GNSS, Building Integrated Timing Supply (BITS), 10 MHz, 1 Pulse Per Second (1 PPS), and Time of Day (TOD) interfaces. Acts as the central system clocking for ASR 900 Series, supporting Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEE 1588-2008. Serves as clock source for TDM and SDH/SONET interfaces. Functions as IEEE 1588-2008 ordinary clock, boundary clock, end-to-end transparent clock, and primary clock.
- GNSS Capabilities: Allows direct interface to external antennas. Supports multiple satellite systems: Global Positioning System (GPS), GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS, SBAS, and GALILEO.
- High Availability and Modularity: Supports intrachassis hardware redundancy and In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) with paired RSPs. Operates in active/hot standby mode in ASR 903 and ASR 907 systems. Field-Replaceable Unit (FRU) with Online Insertion and Removal (OIR) capability. Automatic switchover on active RSP removal or failure.
- Management Interfaces: Includes Out-of-Band (OOB) management with dual-mode console (USB or serial), Ethernet management port (no interaction with Carrier Ethernet traffic), and USB port for flash devices to load IOS Software images and configurations.
Compatibility
The A900-CM-GNSS- is supported by the Cisco ASR 900 Series RSP3C, available in wide (A900-RSP3C-400-W for ASR 907) and small (A900-RSP3C-400-S for ASR 903) form factors with identical capabilities and software.
- Compatible with multiple Ethernet and TDM/SONET/SDH interface modules including: Cisco ASR 900 Series 1-Port 100GE CPAK Module, 2-Port 40GE QSFP Module, 8-Port 10GE SFP+ Module, 48-Port T1/E1 CEM Module, 48-Port T3/E3 CEM Module, 1-Port 10G (OCn/STM-n) and 8-Port 1G (OCn/STMn) CEM and OTN Module, 12-Port T1/E1 + 4-port DS3/E3 + 4-port OC3/STM-1 or 4-port OC12/STM-4 or 1-Port OC48/STM-16 Module (A900-IMA3G-IMSG).
ASR 900 interface module support depends on RSP, chassis, software version, and slot. Refer to compatibility matrices for details.
Software Support
Supported by Cisco IOS XE Software, providing modular packaging, feature velocity, and resiliency. Scales advanced services without performance impact, integrates applications for security, reliability, and programmability. Software support timelines: ASR 903 in 3.5.0S, ASR 902 in 3.12.0S, RSP2A in 3.13.0S, RSP3C in 3.16.1S, TDM/CEM with RSP3C in 3.18SP.
Performance and Scale
The platform delivers high throughput, with RSP3C variants supporting up to 480 Gbps interface throughput, 600 Mpps IPv4/IPv6 performance, and extensive service scale including 200,000 MAC addresses, 8,000 bridge domains, 256,000 IPv4 routes, and more.
Environmental and Compliance
Operates in rugged environments: –40 to 65°C (DC/1200W AC), –5 to 50°C (550W AC), up to 4000m altitude. Relative humidity 5-95% noncondensing. Complies with NEBS GR-63-Core, safety standards (UL 60950-1, etc.), EMC emissions/immunity, ETSI, and network synchronization standards including GNSS, ITU-T G.8261/Y.1361, IEEE 1588-2008.
