Description
The Cisco A9K-48P10G-AIP-SE is an Advanced IP license designed specifically for the 48-port dual-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 1 Gigabit Ethernet service edge-optimized line card (A9K-48X10GE-1G-SE) in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. This perpetual license provides access to full-scale VPN Routing and Forwarding (VRF) instances on a per-line-card basis, enabling scalable Layer 3 VPN services beyond the basic infrastructure VRF support of up to eight instances.
Key Capabilities Enabled by the License
- Full-scale VRF instances for advanced IP/MPLS deployments, supporting large-scale aggregation, Data Center Interconnect (DCI), and Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) System mode.
- Combined IP, MPLS, Ethernet, Layer 2 VPN (L2VPN), and Layer 3 VPN (L3VPN) services with enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) tailored for service edge applications.
- Layer 2 and Layer 3 service density optimized for carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS networks, promoting profitable business, residential, and mobile services.
Powered by the Cisco IOS XR Software operating system, which is modular, patchable, scalable, highly available, and proven in carrier-core and edge environments, this license unlocks the full potential of the line card for high-density 10GE/1GE performance. The line cards are fully compatible with all ASR 9000 Series modular chassis, including ASR 9922, ASR 9912, ASR 9910, ASR 9906, ASR 9904, ASR 9010, and ASR 9006.
Line Card Features and Performance
These line cards deliver industry-leading high density and performance to any slot in a Cisco ASR 9000 Series router, addressing bandwidth bottlenecks from Video-on-Demand (VoD), IPTV, point-to-point video, Internet video, and cloud services traffic with a low power profile. Fully populating an ASR 9922 chassis with the 48-port line card provides 960 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet or 960 ports of 1 Gigabit Ethernet in a single chassis, ideal for density, performance, and low-latency operations.
- 48-port dual-rate line card throughput: 400-Gbps line-rate, with 480:400 oversubscription and graceful packet redistribution.
- All ports configurable as all 10G or all 1G mode, with flexibility for mixed 1G and 10G configurations.
- Physical interfaces support Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) and Enhanced SFP (SFP+) optics for long- and short-haul applications.
- 10-Gbps IEEE 802.3ba compliant, 10 Gigabit Ethernet PHY monitoring, IEEE 802.x flow control, full-duplex operation, and per-port counters for policy drops, oversubscription drops, CRC errors, packet sizes, unicast/multicast/broadcast packets.
- Service edge-optimized variant for deployments requiring enhanced QoS; only LAN mode supported.
Advanced Monitoring and Operations
- Carrier-class OAM: NetFlow, IEEE 802.1ag, IEEE 802.3ah, ITU Y.1731, IP SLA, VCCV, ping, and traceroute.
- Line-card Online Insertion and Removal (OIR) without system effects for high reliability and availability.
- Cisco SFP and SFP+ interfaces allow mixing 1G and 10G Ethernet types (complete list in Cisco Optics Compatibility Matrix).
These capabilities set a new standard for Layer 2 and Layer 3 10GE/1GE service density and scale, reducing CapEx and OpEx by allowing deployment in Layer 2, Layer 3, DCI, or aggregation applications with one line card type.
