Description
The Cisco ASR-907-BUN-2IMA is part of the ASR 900 Series Aggregation Services Routers, full-featured modular platforms designed for cost-effective delivery of converged mobile, residential, and business services. These routers offer redundancy, shallow depth, low power consumption, and high service scale, optimized for small aggregation and remote Point-of-Presence (POP) applications.
Key Capabilities
- Broadband Aggregation: Supports broadband aggregation for ‘any-play’ services including voice, video, data, and mobility. Handles thousands of subscribers with advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features, scaling to a large number of queues per device using a highly granular, three-level hierarchical QoS algorithm. Full-featured Layer 2 and Layer 3 support for applications like IPTV and Video on Demand (VoD), enhancing the Cisco Evolved Programmable Network architecture.
- Preaggregation for Mobile Applications: Aggregates cell sites for mobile backhaul using Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) as transport for Radio Access Network (RAN) backhaul traffic. Provides integrated timing services including Building Integrated Timing Supply (BITS), 10 MHz, 1 Pulse Per Second (1PPS), and Time Of Day (TOD) interfaces. Supports Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE), IEEE-1588, and acts as clock source for TDM, SDH, SONET, SyncE, and GPS interfaces. Qualified for extended temperature ranges and rugged environments.
- Metro Ethernet Aggregation: Meets service provider requirements for Carrier Ethernet aggregation, optimized for remote central offices and smaller sites. Delivers Layer 2, IP, and MPLS transport for advanced L2VPN, L3VPN, and multicast services in a fully redundant, small-footprint platform.
Flexible Deployment and High Availability
The ASR 907 Router features a compact form factor for deployment in small spaces, including ETSI 300-mm deep cabinets. Side-to-side airflow allows back-to-back mounting in 600-mm cabinets. Extended temperature range reduces need for environmental control, extending Carrier Ethernet networks to remote locations.
Modular design includes one fan tray, up to three power supplies, two Route Switch Processors (RSP) cards, and up to 16 interface module cards. All interface modules, power supplies, and fan tray are field-replaceable. Supports in-box hardware redundancy and software redundancy via In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) with paired RSPs.
- Ethernet interfaces: Copper and fiber, 10 Mbps to 100 Gbps.
- Legacy interfaces: nxDS0 to OC-12/STM-4 for PDH, SDH, SONET.
- Fan tray: Redundant fans, dry-contact inputs, system-level alarm LEDs. Optional dust filter (note: reduces cooling capacity).
- Power supplies: AC and DC options, load-share with single supply operation, AC/DC mixing supported.
Route Switch Processor and Interface Modules
The RSP performs data-plane, network-timing, and control-plane functions. ASR 907 has two RSP slots (FRU). Supports 16 interface module slots (0-15), with combinations depending on RSP and chassis.
Operates on Cisco IOS XE S Software for modular packaging, feature velocity, and resiliency. Supports Cisco Prime for Evolved Programmable Network for end-to-end management.
Operational Efficiency
Includes proactive diagnostics like Generic Online Diagnostics (GOLD) for problem avoidance, troubleshooting, and solutions. Fully modular with online field replacement of components. Single fan tray slot required for operation, remains operational during replacement (with reinsertion time limit based on temperature).
