Description
The Cisco ASR1000-RP3-64G-2P provides two Cisco ASR 1000 Series Route Processor 3 (RP3) modules, each equipped with 64 GB DRAM, designed for carrier-grade IP and MPLS networks in modular chassis including ASR 1006-X, ASR 1009-X, and ASR 1013. These route processors serve as the central control units, running Cisco IOS XE Software, delivering advanced routing, and managing other ASR 1000 components like Embedded Services Processors (ESPs).
Key Architecture and Performance
- Quad-core processor at 2.2 GHz for high-performance route processing
- Supports up to 1,000,000 IPv4/IPv6 routes (8 GB memory), scaling to 4,000,000 IPv4/IPv6 (16 GB), and 8,500,000 IPv4/7,500,000 IPv6 (32 GB)
- BGP Route Reflector scalability up to 24M IPv4/17M IPv6 routes (16/32 GB)
- Full Cisco IOS XE Software feature set: QoS, MPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, Application Visibility and Control, Performance Routing (PfR), AppNav, Data Center Interconnect, Crypto, IPv6
- Builds and distributes forwarding info to ESP, handles SBC setup/teardown, stateful firewall policies, IPsec IKE negotiation
High Availability and Management
- Optional redundant-processor and dual IOS XE support for resiliency
- 1+1 redundancy in dual-RP config, Online Insertion and Removal (OIR), Nonstop Forwarding (NSF), Stateful Switchover (SSO), In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU)
- System management: Loads OS to line cards, synchronizes state, high-availability failover, monitors power/temperature
- Ports: Console (RJ-45), Auxiliary (RJ-45), 10/100/1000 management Ethernet (RJ-45), RJ-48 for BITS input/output clock
- Out-of-band console/aux/USB/Ethernet access; direct kernel access on IOS failure
Memory, Storage, and Scalability
- 64 GB SDRAM (default 8 GB, field-upgradable to 8/16/32/64 GB via DIMMs)
- Built-in eUSB/eMMC bootflash: 8 GB
- Storage: 100 GB SSD default (hot-swappable, upgradable to 200/400 GB), supports HDD/SSD for code/boot/config/logs
- Two USB ports for 1 GB compact flash
- Stratum-3 clock circuitry, BITS input/output for SONET/SDH timing
- Pay-as-you-grow: Memory scales for routing table growth, MPLS VPNs, SBC, BBA
Modularity and Serviceability
- Field-replaceable, hot-swappable for minimal disruption
- LEDs: PWR (Green: OK), STAT (Green: booted, Yellow: BootROM, Red: failure), ACTV/STBY (Green/Yellow), CRIT/MAJ/MIN (Red/Amber), HD/USB/BF (activity), CARRIER (BITS: Off/Green/Amber), LINK (solid/flash green/off), DISK2 (activity)
The RP3 integrates with Cisco QuantumFlow Processor (QFP) for unified forwarding, QoS, and programmability. Compatible with Cisco IOS XE 16.3.1+, supports SNMP (RFC 2737/2665), Telnet/SSH/CLI. Physical: 0.92 x 16.7 x 14.19 in. (HWD), 7 lb (3.2 kg). Meets NEBS (GR-1089/63-CORE), ETSI, extensive safety/EMC/immunity standards.
