Description
The Cisco ASR920-24G-4-10G is a port license for the Cisco ASR 920 Series Aggregation Services Routers, enabling 24 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) ports and 4 10 Gigabit ports. This license supports the modular Cisco IOS XE Software, which separates the data plane and control plane for enhanced system performance.
Cisco IOS XE Software Overview
Cisco IOS XE Software for ASR 920 routers includes licenses for Metro Access, Metro IP Access, and Advanced Metro IP Access. These feature sets activate as needed, supporting a pay-as-you-grow model. ASR 920 routers are supported starting from Cisco IOS XE Software Release 3.13.0S. Consolidated software packages contain a superset of all features, enforced by appropriate technology package licenses.
Flexible Software Activation allows feature sets to be activated with software licenses on a per-chassis basis. The universal consolidated package is SASR920NPEK9S, providing basic feature support without a license, including Secure Shell (SSH) and SNMPv3.
License Tiers
- Metro Access License: Advanced QoS with deep buffers and HQoS, Carrier Ethernet Layer 2 features, Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE), Ethernet OAM (802.1ag, 802.3ah).
- Metro IP Access License: All Metro Access capabilities plus IEEE 1588-2008 Ordinary/Transparent Clock, BFD, Layer 3 routing (RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, IS-IS), PIM multicast, multi-VRF CE.
- Advanced Metro IP Access License: All prior plus MPLS-TP, MPLS, EoMPLS, CESoPSN, SAToP pseudowires, MR-APS, mLACP, MPLS TE, MPLS FRR, MPLS VPN.
Additional Feature Licenses
- OC3 port license: Activates OC3 ports (one per port, for A900-IMA4OS IM supporting four OC3 ports).
- IEEE 1588-2008 BC/MC license: Activates Boundary Clock or Master Clock (one per chassis).
Cisco IOS XE Release Schedule
Time-based releases every four months with new features and hardware. Standard Support (1 year, 2 rebuilds) or Extended Support (2 years, 4 rebuilds). Rebuilds for bug fixes only, critical issues as needed.
