Description
The Cisco ASR9K-DC-PEM-V2 DC Power Entry Module Version 2 is a critical component for the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers, ensuring robust and redundant DC power delivery to support next-generation system processors like the Route Switch Processor 5 (RSP5). It enables high-density 100 and 400 Gigabit Ethernet line cards while maintaining backward compatibility with third-generation line cards. Designed for wireline, Data-Center-Interconnect (DCI), and mobile aggregation, it accommodates programmable deployment models and Layer 2/Layer 3 service convergence.
Route Switch Processor 5 Overview
The ASR 9000 Series RSP5 is the next-generation system processor, bringing carrier-class IOS XR Software capabilities to the Carrier Ethernet edge. It features true software process modularity with protected memory for routing protocols, control, data, and management planes, plus distributed route processing. Available in service-edge-optimized (higher memory for large-scale services) and packet-transport-optimized models, it supports mixed line cards for flexibility.
Key Architecture and Scalability Features
- Switch fabric architecture for ASR 9010, ASR 9006, ASR 9904, ASR 9906, hybrid with ASR 9910 and ASR 9906 Fabric Cards: distributed switch fabric using integrated RSP fabrics and dedicated cards
- Control of up to seven switch fabrics (two on RSP, five on fabric cards) for scalability matching ASR 9922 and ASR 9912
- Multistage, low-latency, non-blocking architecture with service intelligence and traffic prioritization
- Superior network-timing: GPS via ToD, 10-MHz, 1-PPS; centralized BITS
Performance and High Availability
The RSP5 delivers scalability, performance, and fast convergence for video, cloud, and mobile services with exceptional scale, flexibility, and availability. It supports distributed forwarding, memoryless switch fabric, virtual output queuing, centralized arbiter for zero packet loss switchover, IEEE 1588 timing, and redundant clock sources.
Storage and Management
- Two 128GB SSDs for core dumps and reduced MTTR
- Embedded eUSB and front-panel USB 2.0 for software images
- Front-panel LEDs for RSP status, power, SSD activity
- Management ports: two RJ-45 LAN, console, auxiliary
- Processor: 8 cores at 1.9 GHz
