Description
The Cisco FLASR1-BB-16K is a Broadband 16K Sessions Feature License designed specifically for the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. This perpetual Right-To-Use (RTU) license unlocks advanced broadband aggregation capabilities, enabling service providers and enterprises to deliver high-performance, scalable broadband services such as L2TP Access Concentrator (LAC) or L2TP Network Server (LNS) for point-to-point protocol over Ethernet (PPPoX) or IP sessions.
Key Broadband Capabilities
- Supports up to 16,000 concurrent broadband sessions, ideal for large-scale triple-play deployments (data, voice, video).
- Provides complete service support including per-user firewall, Session Border Controller (SBC), and Quality of Service (QoS).
- Scalable to higher session counts with complementary licenses: FLASR1-BB-4K (4K sessions), FLASR1-BB-32K (32K), FLASR1-BB-48K (48K), FLASR1-BB-64K (64K).
- Requires base FLASR1-BB-RTU license for broadband feature activation.
Cisco ASR 1000 Series routers, powered by the innovative Cisco QuantumFlow processor, deliver exceptional performance from 2.5 Gbps to 100 Gbps. The separation of control and data planes ensures high availability with software redundancy on models like ASR 1001, ASR 1002 Fixed, ASR 1002, ASR 1002-X, and ASR 1004, and hardware redundancy on ASR 1006 and ASR 1013. Modular Cisco IOS XE software supports In-Service Software Upgrades (ISSU) for minimal downtime.
Applications and Benefits
- Service Provider Edge – Broadband LAC/LNS: Handles bandwidth from STM-1 ATM, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, to 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Extremely scalable, supporting up to 64,000 users and 64,000 tunnels.
- Hosted CPE: Routes branch traffic across Ethernet SLAs with encryption for thousands of Mbps, software modularity, and ISSU. Optimizes WAN paths bypassing service provider power controls.
- Layer 3 VPN Provider Edge: Full services embedded in QuantumFlow processor including encryption, Flexible Packet Matching (FPM), Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR), SBC, IP multicast. Scales to 8,000 VRF instances, 1 million LDP labels, 4,000 ACLs, 4 million IPv4/IPv6 routes.
- High-End Route Reflector: 40 Gbps bandwidth support with modular RP and ESP redundancy.
- Next-Gen Voice/Multimedia – Unified Border Element (SP Edition): SBC with security, QoS, IPv4/IPv6, up to 32,000 simultaneous voice calls and 40 Gbps multimedia.
The license integrates seamlessly with embedded services such as Zone-Based Policy Firewall (up to 100 Gbps performance), IPsec VPN aggregation (up to 8,000 tunnels, 25 Gbps encryption on ESP100), QoS with 232,000 queues, NBAR, and NetFlow v9 (40,000 sessions/sec logging).
Cisco IOS XE Software Integration
Cisco IOS XE, a modular OS based on IOS 12.2SR/15S, supports feature packages: IP Base, Advanced IP Services, Advanced Enterprise Services (with/without encryption). Dual IOS instances enable software redundancy. Seven sub-packages (RPBase, RPControl, RPAccess, RPIOS, ESPBase, SIPSPA, SIPBase) allow granular upgrades.
