Description

The Cisco FLSASR1-BB-32K is a feature license for the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers, enabling support for 32,000 broadband sessions. This license is part of the comprehensive Cisco IOS XE software ecosystem, designed to deliver optimized intelligent services with outstanding performance and high availability on the ASR 1000 platform.

Cisco ASR 1000 Series Overview

Cisco ASR 1000 Series routers reshape edge routing technology, establishing a new price-to-performance benchmark in enterprise high-end routing, service provider edge, and broadband aggregation. They benefit service providers by enabling flexible, efficient, and economical delivery of integrated consumer and enterprise services, while enterprises gain high-reliability, high-performance WAN edge solutions that converge information, communications, collaboration, and business processes.

The series includes models such as Cisco ASR 1001 router, Cisco ASR 1002 Fixed router, Cisco ASR 1002 router, Cisco ASR 1004 router, Cisco ASR 1006 router, and Cisco ASR 1013 router. All models leverage the innovative Cisco QuantumFlow processor, which delivers massive leaps in network processor performance and resiliency. Compared to previous Cisco midrange routing solutions, the ASR 1000 Series improves service plane performance by more than 10 times, with hardware and software redundancy and industry-leading low-disruption design.

Embedded Services and Performance

• Services integrated into Cisco QuantumFlow processor: security (encryption, firewall), QoS, NBAR, Cisco IOS Flexible Packet Matching (FPM), broadband aggregation, Cisco Unified Border Element (SP edition, formerly SBC).
• Performance scales from 2.5 Gbps to 100 Gbps depending on Embedded Service Processor (ESP).

Cisco ASR 1001 introduces Integrated Daughter Card (IDC) concept: base ASR1001 without IDC, and variants like ASR1001-2XOC3POS (2 OC-3 PoS ports), ASR1001-4XT3 (4 T3 ports), ASR1001-4X1GE (4 GE ports), ASR1001-8CHT1E1 (8 T1/E1 ports), ASR1001-HDD (integrated HDD). IDCs are not field-upgradable.

Software and Licensing

Cisco IOS XE software, based on Cisco IOS Software (versions 12.2SR to 15S), provides modular packaging, feature velocity, and resiliency. Supports dual IOS instances on a single Route Processor for software redundancy in select chassis. Six consolidated packages per IOS XE version: IP Base (no crypto), IP Base, Advanced IP Services, Advanced IP Services (no crypto), Advanced Enterprise Services, Advanced Enterprise Services (no crypto).

The FLSASR1-BB-32K license specifically enables 32K broadband sessions, part of the broadband license suite including FLASR1-BB-RTU, FLASR1-BB-4K, FLASR1-BB-16K, FLASR1-BB-48K, FLASR1-BB-64K. Ideal for broadband L2TP Access Concentrator (LAC) or LNS, supporting up to 64K users/channels, per-user firewall, SBC, and triple-play (data, voice, video) deployments.

Hardware Architecture

Separation of control and data planes. RP1 packages compatible across series; RP2 for higher chassis. Software activation for performance upgrades: 2.5-5 Gbps (ASR1001), 5-10/20/36 Gbps (ASR1002-X). Each IOS XE package contains 7 subpackages: RPBase, RPControl, RPAccess (non-K9/K9), RPIOS, ESPBase, SIPSPA, SIPBase.

Chassis and Components

Supports various chassis from 1RU (ASR1001) to 13RU (ASR1013), with integrated GE ports (4-6), SPA slots (1-24), ESP bandwidth 2.5-100 Gbps, RP memory up to 16 GB DRAM, embedded hardware encryption up to 25 Gbps. Front-to-back airflow, redundant power (AC/DC), NEBS compliant.
