Description
The Cisco S-A9K-4HG-AIP-SE is the ASR 9000 Advance IP license for 400GE Service Edge on 5th Generation Line Cards. It enables full-scale advanced IP services, including comprehensive VRF support, on high-density multi-rate line cards delivering industry-leading 100, 200, and 400 Gigabit Ethernet ports to any slot in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers.
Product Overview
These licenses address bandwidth bottlenecks driven by surging Video-on-Demand (VoD), IPTV, point-to-point video, Internet video, and cloud services traffic. A single 100 Gigabit Ethernet port replaces large 10 Gigabit Ethernet link aggregation bundles, simplifying operations. Based on QSFP technology, the associated line cards offer flexible interfaces supporting 400 Gigabit Ethernet, 200 Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Gigabit Ethernet, 40 Gigabit Ethernet, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet modes. Operators can mix and match interface types on the same line card for mass-scale networking readiness.
Interface modes are configured via Command Line Interface (CLI) without resetting or restarting the line card. Green design features allow unused slices to enter power-saving mode, reducing consumption. This provides foundational infrastructure for scalable Carrier Ethernet and IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) networks, enabling profitable business, residential, and mobile services.
Features and Benefits
The 5th Generation High-Density Multi-Rate Line Cards, activated by licenses like S-A9K-4HG-AIP-SE, are fully compatible with Cisco ASR 9006, 9010, 9904, 9906, 9910, 9912, and 9922 Routers, potentially requiring chassis updates for fabric cards, RP/RSP cards, and cooling systems. They support full line-rate, non-oversubscribed traffic in service-edge-optimized variants for enhanced service scale.
- Power-optimized at high density to reduce CapEx and OpEx for predictable Core and Peering transport services.
- QSFP breakout options increase aggregation capability and support 10 Gigabit Ethernet Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) System mode.
- A9K-20HG-FLEX-SE provides 20 ports of 100G, 5 ports of 200G, 5 ports of 400G, or combinations not exceeding 2T total; five of 20 ports upgradable to 400GE via license per port.
- A9K-8HG-FLEX-SE provides 8 ports of 100G, 2 ports of 200G, 2 ports of 400G, or combinations not exceeding 0.8T total; two of 8 ports upgradable to 400GE via license per port.
- Uses QSFP28/QSFP-DD form factor transceivers; QSFP-DD matches QSFP28 mechanicals, supporting 10GE/40GE/100GE/200GE/400GE migration.
Service-edge-optimized (SE) variants suit deployments needing enhanced service scale; feature licenses like Advanced IP activate capabilities on line cards.
Line Card Capabilities
Line cards deliver line-rate 100Gbps per QSFP28 port and 400Gbps per QSFP-DD port. Cisco QSFP pluggable interfaces mix 40/100/400 Gigabit Ethernet types (see Cisco Optics Compatibility Matrix for full list). Carrier-class OAM includes NetFlow, IEEE 802.1ag, IEEE 802.3ah, ITU Y.1731, IP SLA, VCCV, ping, trace route. Powered by modular, patchable Cisco IOS XR Software (64-bit) for scalability and high availability.
Performance and Reliability
- 100-Gbps IEEE 802.3ba compliant with PHY monitoring.
- 400-Gbps IEEE 802.3bs compliant.
- IEEE 802.x flow control, full-duplex, per-port counters for drops, CRC errors, packet sizes, unicast/multicast/broadcast.
- Line card Online Insertion and Removal (OIR) without system impact.
Supported starting Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.1.15.
