Description
The Cisco S-A9K-NVSAT1-LIC is an ASR 9K Smart License that provides NV Host License for 1 nV Client, designed for the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers, including the compact high-performance Cisco ASR 9903 Router. This license enables advanced network virtualization capabilities, allowing operators to deploy scalable, flexible services in business PE, metro aggregation, cloud edge, Internet peering, Data Center Interconnect (DCI), and mobile edge scenarios for 4G/5G networks.
Key Features and Benefits
- Interface Support: Cisco Pluggable interfaces provide the capacity to mix and match 10, 25, 40, 100, and 400 Gigabit Ethernet interface types across the ASR 9903 chassis.
- Evolutionary Monitoring: Carrier-class Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) including NetFlow, IEEE 802.1ag, IEEE 802.3ah, ITU Y.1731, IP Service-Level Agreement (IP SLA), Virtual Circuit Connectivity Verification (VCCV), ping, and traceroute.
- Timing Capability: Hardware-based IEEE 1588, GPS/BITS interfaces, and SyncE support. Delivers timing services over the packet network with support of PTP Telecom profiles (G.8265.1, G.8275.1, G.8275.2). SyncE on Ethernet ports across the ASR 9903 chassis, support of GPS and BITS interfaces for redundant network synchronization.
- Carrier-Grade Redundancy: Fully redundant configuration supporting two Route Processors (RPs), two fabrics, 4 power supply modules, 4 fan modules.
- Carrier-Class OS: Cisco IOS XR Software (64-bit) – modular, patchable, scalable, highly available, carrier-core, and edge-proven operating system.
- Power-Optimized Architecture: High density of multi-rate ports and super service scales to reduce CapEx and OpEx while providing predictable, flexibly managed service infrastructure.
The ASR 9903 Router, compatible with this license, delivers up to 3.6 Tbps of nonblocking, full-duplex capacity in a 3RU form factor. It supports multiple port rates: 400 Gigabit Ethernet, 200 Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Gigabit Ethernet, 40 Gigabit Ethernet, 25 Gigabit Ethernet, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, offering flexibility to mix and match interface types. The fixed board supports maximum 1.6T data bandwidth with integrated ports operating as 16x100GE, 15x100GE + 10x10GE, or 14x100GE + 20x10GE. Optional Port Expansion Cards (PEC) enhance capacity: A9903-20HG-PEC with 20 ports (5 QSFP-DD multi-rate up to 400GE, 15 QSFP28 100GE) for 2T bandwidth, and A9903-8HG-PEC with 48 ports (32 SFP28 25GE/10GE, 16 SFP+ 10GE) for 800G bandwidth.
Route Processor Details
The Cisco ASR 9903 Route Processor features a service edge-optimized version with a powerful 64-bit Intel CPU and 32GB memory. External interfaces include console and auxiliary serial ports, two management Ethernet interfaces, a Class A USB port, GPS interface (10MHz, 1PPS, ToD ports), and two BITS interfaces.
Platform Flexibility
- Compact size with 600 mm depth, front-to-back airflow, and PTP Telecom profiles support, ideal for mobile edge in 4G/5G networks.
- Enterprise deployment as border or peering router.
- All transceivers applicable on ASR 9903 can be used in any ASR 9000 Series modular chassis.
- QSFP-DD optics compatible with QSFP28 cage size, supporting breakout to 25GE/10GE, 40GE, 100GE, 200GE, or 400GE for smooth migration.
- Supported starting with Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.1.25.
Software and Licensing
The S-A9K-NVSAT1-LIC integrates with the Cisco IOS XR ecosystem under the Traditional Business Model, alongside other feature licenses for VRF, CGv6, MACSEC, Lawful Intercept, Tunnel Protocols, and more. It is part of optional feature licenses to enable specific capabilities on the ASR 9903 service edge variant.
Environmental and Compliance
Designed for robust operation with redundancy across Route Processors, switch fabrics, power supplies, fans, and software. Supports 19-inch rack mounting, front-to-back airflow, and meets stringent ETSI/EN, EMC, Immunity, Safety, and NEBS standards including SR-3580 Level 3, GR-1089-CORE, and GR-63-CORE.
