Description

The Cisco SFP-OC12-SR is an industry-standard Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) Interface Converter designed specifically for Packet-Over-SONET/SDH (POS), optical networking, and ATM applications. This hot-swappable optical interface plugs into a variety of SFP ports on Cisco router interfaces, providing reliable OC-12/STM-4 (622 Mbps) data rates for short-reach applications up to 2 km over single-mode fiber.

As part of Cisco’s SFP optics lineup for POS/SDH and ATM, the SFP-OC12-SR supports multimode, short-reach, intermediate-reach, and long-reach variants across OC-3/STM-1 (155 Mbps), OC-12/STM-4 (622 Mbps), and OC-48/STM-16 (2.488 Gbps) data rates. It is fully compatible with SONET/SDH and ATM standards, adhering to the digital diagnostic functions outlined in the SFF-8742 Multi-Source Agreement (MSA). The module operates across an extended case temperature range of -5 to 85°C (23 to 185°F), ensuring performance in demanding environments.

For short-reach OC-12/STM-4 applications, the transceiver features a transmitter wavelength range of 1261 to 1360 nm, transmit power range of -8 to -15 dBm, receiver power range of -8 to -23 dBm, and an optical path penalty of 1 dB. The broader family includes multimode options (0.5 km for OC-12), intermediate-reach (15 km), and long-reach variants up to 80 km, all with consistent digital optical monitoring support.
