Description

The Cisco ASR-9904 is a high-performance 2 Line Card Slot Chassis from the ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers, designed for carrier-class edge routing in wireline, Data-Center-Interconnect (DCI), and Radio Access Network (RAN) aggregation. It leverages the Cisco ASR 9000 Route Switch Processor 880 (RSP 880) as its system processor, available in RSP880 and RSP880-LT variants, providing backward compatibility with second-generation line cards and support for high-density 100 Gigabit Ethernet line cards.

• Two independent clock source connections: BITS and Synchronization Supply Unit (SSU) DTI offers redundant, centralized network synchronization support.

The RSP880 brings time-tested carrier-class capabilities of Cisco IOS XR Software to the Carrier Ethernet edge, supporting true software process modularity with each process running in separate protected memory, including each routing protocol, multiple instances of control, data, and management planes, and distributed route processing.

Service and Transport Optimization

Available in service-edge-optimized (higher memory for large-scale services) and packet-transport-optimized models. Both variants support service-optimized and transport-optimized line cards, allowing mixing on the same chassis for maximum flexibility. Delivers high scalability, performance, and fast convergence for video, cloud, and mobile services.

Cisco IOS XR Software is self-healing, distributed, designed for always-on operation with Software-Maintenance-Update (SMU) for bug fixes and small features without service interruption, and Field-Programmable Device (FPD) upgrades for FPGAs, ROMmon while running.

Supports Carrier Ethernet applications: Layer 2 VPN (L2VPN), Layer 3 VPN (L3VPN), IPTV, CDNs, mobile backhaul.
